I bought this record for one reason”Yolanda You Learn” the second track on the record. It’s a video I saw when I was living in Hull, not on MTV but on some other program possibly Night Flight, a late night show that was on back then. It was a spot were they played videos ,not for the music but the unusual video itself. This one had some colorful drawings and some stop action filming and of course I taped it on a VCR tape. It’s a juanty little number with trumpet and sitar. Pat Metheny is a Jazz guitarist who I saw at one of the four Merlefest’s I attended. The rest of the album verges on Smooth Jazz which I don’t like much but it did win a Grammy in 1985. Five Of The Eight tracks were co-written by keyboard player Lyle Mays. All but two tracks feature the voic of Argentine musician Pedro Aznar one “Mas Alla” has lyrics but they are in Spanish. Metheny also colaborated with Jaco Pastorius and both, along with Lyle Mays, toured with Joni Mitchell and played on her live album which will be coming up in May.
