Natalie Merchant-Paradise Is There

This is a re-working of the songs from her first solo album Tigerlilly from 1995 twenty years later. Although I never owned the original Tigerlilly,I knew some of the songs from the radio. After listening to side one I didn’t like this new version of “Carnival” or the other two songs on the side. I wasn’t looking forward to the other three sides but was suprised to find that I liked most of them. Many of the songs have orchestration and there are a few with some accordian. “I May Know The Word” has a nice long fadeout with some Rock style electric guitar. “Jealous” and “Wonder” the other two songs I knew sounded good. It’s a nice package I bought at Barnes And Nobel with an 8 page booklet with lyrics in English and six other languages. I didn’t recognize any of the musicians listed in the credits. My wife and I saw 10’000 Maniacs at the Mann in 1990 and later in 2018 with Mary Ramsey ,who had been involved with the band from the beginning, taking Natalie’s place.
