Loreena McKennitt-Nights From The Alhambra

A live album recorded at the Alhambra in Spain in 2006. It’s a limited numbered edition of 7,500 from 2014 and a Canadian import of the concert which also came out on DVD and CD. Canadian McKennitt is an acomplished singer, pianist, harpist, and accordian player. The music is traditional Folk plus some of her own songs venturing into the World Music genre. Some of her songs are music put to the words of Yeats,Tennyson, and Shakespeare. Many of the songs are on her earlier live CD that I have. Looking at the liner notes the same musicians are backing her up with a couple of exceptions. Many ancient instruments are played including Uilleann pipes, bodhran, bouzouki, oud, and lyra as well as assorted percussion, violin and cello. The music is generally nice and soothing but they do bring out an electric guitar on ” The Bonny Swans”. “The Mummers Dance” is probably the most recognized of her songs.
