Mazzy Star-So Tonight That I Might See

This is a band formed by David Roback and Hope Sandoval. He earlier had a band called Opal with Kendra Smith of Dream Syndicate that put out one record that I had on cassette but during the tour to support the record she left and was replaced by Hope Sandoval. They later changed their name to Mazzy Star. This is their second record from 1993. Also one I had on cassette as well as their first She Hangs Brightly. I was happy to find a used copy of this 2010 re-issue. Like all their albums its a mostly acoustic, quiet, hypnotic, psychedelic sounding record with Hope’s low key vocals rarely raising above a whisper. A great record to listen to under the influence of whatever you like. “Fade Into You” got some airplay in the 90’s and is representitive of their sound. “Five String Serenade” is a song by Alvin Lee of Love and has some violin. “Mary Of Silence” is so quiet when you look at it on the record it looks like blank space.”Wasted” has some heavier electric guitar while the title track is all Velvet Underground. A really great album if you just want to lay back and chill.
