Man-Green Fly

A great two record compilation of Mans best music from 1972 to 1975 that came out in 1986. This is a record I bought in 1989 at a record store on the Main Line called Plastic Fantastic. When I was living in Upper Darby it was not far and I went to that store a few times. Can’t remember if it was new or used. It’s a British import and one I have never seen before. Any one of the four sides is awesome. The first record has great Rockers like “Ain’t Their Fight”,”Kerosene” and “Keep On Crinting” and some quieter songs like the acoustic flavored “California Silks And Satins” and “Rainbow Eyes”. The second record is all live tracks, two from Maximun Darkness “7171-551” and “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You” and “Bananas” ,not the one on Maximum Darknessbut one recorded in 1972. The highlight of this album is “Sospan Fach/C’mon” with The GwaliaMale Choir singing the traditional Welsh folk song before the band takes over for a 19 minute Psychedelic tour de force. Deke Leonard was not in the band at this time ,temporarily leaving to front his own band Iceberg, but Micky Jones plays some amazing guitar and Phil Ryan’s spacey keyboards makes this an instant classic,so light one up when you listen to this one,you won’t be dissapointed. The album is very well produced and sounds great. The Man family tree is quite extensive with many line-up changes with some members leaving and later returning. Since 2006 drummer Martin Ace is the only long standing person in the group. Deke Leonard,Micky Jones,Clive John,Will Youat, Ken Whaley and Phil Ryan all died in the last 10 years.
