Another really great record and one I got from the Columbia House Record Club. This January 1973 release was one of the records of the month that was automatically sent if you didn’t send the card back saying you didn’t want it. After hearing the first record The Inner Mounting Flame in High School I wanted this one. I like it better than the first one. The title track is an intense Rocker followed by the Funky “Miles Beyond(Miles Davis)”.”Thousand Island Park” is another nice quiet piece with piano, acoustic guitar, and bass. The ten minute “One Word” is another classic with McLaughlin and Goodman trading licks on guitar and violin with a long drum solo by Billy Cobham. “Open Country Joy” is another realy nice one with violin sounding more like a fiddle that suddenly breaks into some heavy riffing before going back to the more subdued guitar and violin. The record is pretty scratchy sounding but has no skips. Inside there is a sheet with a poem by McLaughlin’s guru Sri Chinmoy and another one on the back cover.
