This American from N.Y.C. took the name Taj Mahal in the late 60’s when he started making music. This two record set,a 1987 import from England, from The Collector Series focuses on his work from the late 60’s to early 70’s. Most of it is in the Early Blues acoustic style but there are some songs in a different vein. “Clara(St. Kitts Woman)” is in the Calypso style and “Diving Duck Blues” is a Rocker that was on a sampler from Colombia Records that I got when I was a member of their record club called More Heavy Sounds in the early 70’s. “Take A Giant Step” is another good song written by Goffin/King. “Texas Woman Blues” and “A Free Song” were on his Recycling The Blues record that was another record my friends brother had that we listened to when I was in High School. A nice collection of his eraly songs from this talented muscian and singer.
