I originally had this album on an 8-Track tape but the tape jammed and was eaten so I went out and bought the LP. A bit of a change of direction,no heavy blues tracks save for the Slow Blues of “Since I’ve Been Loving You”. Side two was mostly acoustic as well as “Friends” on side one. “Immigrant Song” is the only real Hard Rock song on the record and was released as a single.”Friends” segues right into “Celebration Day” followed by “Since I’ve Been Loving You” with some organ played by John Paul Jones. “Out On The Tiles” closes side one. Side two opens with “Gallows Pole” a traditional song featuring acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin. That and the next song “Tangerine” were my early favorites. “That’s The Way” was another great acoustic song that changed tracks in the middle of the song on the 8-Track, something that was really annoying about them. The last two songs “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” and “Hats Off To (Roy) Harper” I didn’t like much back then. Plant’s distorted vocals were a little bit to weird for me. This is the original album I bought in 1971 and suprisingly still sounds pretty good. No skips. The brass centerpiece that the rotating disk spins around that was on the initial pressings is long gone. As you spun the wheel images would appear in holes in the album cover. This design was brought back for the 2014 re-issue.
