Cindi Lauper-She’s So Unusual

Her first solo album after leaving the unsuccessful band Blue Angel. A really good record of New Wave and Synth Pop music. The photo on the cover was shot by Annie Leibovitz in Coney Island. Mostly covers although she does have a writing credit on four of the songs. The record had three videos that I remember watching in Hull when I watched a lot of MTV after getting off work in the shipyard on second shift. “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” is certainly one of the most well known videos and was written by Robert Hazard. The first song “Money Changes Everything” is a cover of a song by The Brains followed by “Girls…” then a Prince cover “When You Were Mine” and the last song on side one is “Time After Time” a beautiful song written by Lauper and Rob Hyman of The Hooters who along with Eric Bazillan play most of the music on this album. Side two has “She Bop” a song I always kind of liked followed by another nice song”All Through The Night” written by Jules Shear. Also on side two is “Witness” a song from her Blue Angel days and “”He’s So Unusual” a song from the 20’s sung in the style of Betty Boop. The album closes with another cover “Yeah Yeah”. A fun album to listen to. I bought this used sometime in the 90’s. I did’t care for any of her music after this.
