Various Artists-Monterey Pop Festival

This is a seven record box set from Italy on Evil Records. I bought this in 1987 when I was living in Claymont. I paid $100 for it new. The set comes with no booklet or liner notes just the band song title and writer on the label of each record. Many box sets were released later on CD and vinyl with booklets and liner notes but this set is supposedly unofficial. I have sen it for sale on Ebay for as much as $800. Today I listened to two sides of Jefferson Airplane with an early version of “The Ballad Of You And Me And Pooneil” that Marty Balin introduces as a new song. I also listened to one side of four Buffalo Springfield songs with a pairing of “Rock And Roll Woman/Bluebird”. the fifth song on the side is a funky instrumental by The Markays. Besides a full record dedicated to Jefferson Airplane there is a side of Simon and Garfunkle, one of Big Brother and the Holding Company,a side and a half of The Mamas and the Papas,a side of The Animals plus songs fro The Grateful Dead,The Who,Jimi Hendrix,Caned Heat and many others. On the 50th aniversary of the festival in 2017 I listened to all 14 sides on a Saturday. The sound quality is pretty good considering it is from 1967. This is the last of my various artists records, tomorrow I will be starting with the L’s.
