Various Artists-Times Square Original Soundtrack

This movie came out in the Fall of 1980 and was one of the first “dates” I went on with my future wife when I first met her. Te movie was a familiar story about a corrupt businessman who wants to “Clean Up” Times Square. I only saw it the one time and it wasn’t very good. I did like the music though, mostly New Wave and Punk. There are some well known songs on here, “Talk Of The Town”,”Life During Wartime”,and “Walk On The Wild Side” and a cover of an old song “You Can’t Hurry Love”. “Same Old Scene” by Roxy Music and “Down In The Park” by Gary Numan were two songs on side one I had never heard before and really liked and there are non-album tracks by XTC and Joe Jackson on side two that are also good. There are also songs by The Ramones,The Cure, and Patty Smith. One of the lead roles in the movie is a wanna be Rock and Roll star and she sings “Your Daughter Is One” in the movie with some bad language and the “n” word in it that probably wouldn’t be acceptable today. One single was released “Help Me” sung by Robin Gibb and and Marcella Detroit that sounds like a Bee Gees song. Apparently the film is a cult favorite at lesbian and gay film festivals because of the relationship between the two female lead roles. I guess I didn’t pick up on that when I saw the movie.
