King Crimson-Starless And Bible Black

Original

This is the first King Crimson album I bought. It came out in 1974 and I bought it with my paper route money. I guess it’s my favorite by them and the one I’m most familiar with. This time the band consists of Robert Fripp, John Wetton on bass and vocals,Bill Bruford, who left Yes to join King Crimson on drums and David Cross on violin. Most of the album was recorded live with audiance noise edited out. Side one has six songs, four with lyrics by Fripp’s new writing partner Richard Palmer-James. The first,”Great Deciever” was another one that was played on the radio. “Lament” and “Night Watch” are two quieter songs. The instrumentals “We’ll Let You Know” and “Trio” are live improvisations. “Trio” is a really nice, gentle piece with Mellotron,Violin, and bass. Side two has two more live improvs ,the title track and “Fracture” wit Fripp experimenting with some of his guitar “soundscapes”.
