King Crimson-A Young Person’s Guide To King Crimson

Original

This is a really nice compilation album of songs from their first seven studio albums. The song selection and running order were put together by Robert Fripp himself as well as the 20 page booklet with lots of photos and a chronological history of the band from press releases, interviews, and reviews both good and bad. The set includes three from the first album,”The Court Of The Crimson King”,”Epitaph” and an edited version of “Moonchild” There is also an early recording of “I Talk To The Wind” from 1968 when they were called Giles,Giles,& Fripp with Judy Dyble providing the vocals. Side two has two from Red,the instrumental title track and the mostly instrumental “Starless”. “Book Of Saturday” and an edited “Larks Tongues in Aspic Part I” from that album. “Night Watch” and “Trio” are from Starless and Bible Black. “Ladies Of The Road” is from Islands. There is also the single “Cat Food” b/w “Groon”. I bought this album in 1976. It was an import from Jem imports. The record store at the Tri -State mall had a selection of imports from that company and I always looked through them whenever I was there. It’s on the EG Collectors Edition label. It sounds really good after all these years. Fripp had disbanded the group in 1974 and they remained inactive until 1981 when Fripp and Bruford recruited Adrian Belew and Tony Levin. This band put out three albums before breaking up in 1984. In 1995 Fripp once again re-formed the group with his double trio concept of two guitarist, two bassist and two drummers addind Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn to the band as well as Belew,Bruford and Levin. King Crimson is still putting out music to this day with Mel Collins returning plus other new members. I had a lot of their live CD’s including the box set The Great Deceiver, that I had to wait for almost a year to get after ordering it, but they were all sold in 2013. Of course I made digital copies of them before they were sold. One of the great Progressive bands whose influence on other bands is great.
