Judas Priest-Rocka Rolla Posted on September 14, 2021 by David Meader This is their first record from 1974. I originally bought it in 1981,a cutout with the bottle cap cover. This is a 2008 re-issue with a different cover. The songs are mostly what you would call Hard Rock with some Black Sabbath sounding riffs. It was produced by Rodger Ban who produced the first three Sabbath albums. “One For The Road” the first track is a good one but the title track is the weakest song on the album. “Winter/Deep Freeze/Winter Retreat” is a 6 minute suite with some guitar feedback ,”Deep Freeze”, before turning into the pastoral “Winter Retreat”. The last song “Cheater” is the best with Halford playing some harmonica. Side twos “Run Of The Mill” and “Dying To Meet You” have a bit of a Progressive sound to them with some extended instrumental breaks. Ther ecord closes with a pleasant little instrumental “Caviar And Meths”. The album did not sell very well and it wasn’t until their next album Sad Wings Of Destiny that they developed their signature sound.
