Judas Priest-Sad Wings Of Destiny

Original

This is their second album from 1976. I remember buying this one at the record store at the Tri-State Mall in Claymont. I hadnever heard of the band and thought the cover looked interesting. I had never heard any really Heavy metal bands except for Black Sabbath also from the Birmingham,England area and I loved this record from the start. With lots of heavy riffing and guitar solos by K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton and Rob Halford’s high pitched vocals. Side one’s “Victim Of Changes” is an awesome track with Halford screaming at the end after a quiet passage. The short “Ripper” is a straight out rocker and “Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver” is a more laid back song before exploding into the second part “Deceiver. Side one was the one I played most but side two is just as good. “Tyrant” and “Genocide” have many tempo changes and are very heavy while the piano backed(played by Tipton) “Epitaph” is another quiet song with some Queen like vocals. I like how the piano at the end is overtaken by the opening guitar of the final song “Island Of Domination”. Definitely my favorite Judas Priest album and one of the best Heavy Metal albums.
