Billy Joel-Kohliept

Billy Joel was one of the first Western artists to perform in Russia. He did six shows there in 1987. He brought his then wife Christie Brinkley with him on the tour. There are pictures of them and the band on the inside of the gatefold cover including one of him crowd surfing. It’s a good selection of newer songs, the oldest being “Angry Young Man” from Turnstiles. “Goodnight Saigon” is one I like and now it is stuck in my head. “Big Man On Mulberry Street is another good one with a decent guitar solo. Although I don’t consider him a real Rocker there are a couple where he rocks out a bit. “Big Shot” and “Only The Good Die Young”being the best ones. His song introductions are translated into Russian with “Allentown” being introduced as people living in Eastern North America whose lives are miserable because the steel mills are closing down. They stay because they hope it will get better. Sound Familiar? Joel’s voice sounds a little strained on some of the songs but overall a good performance. I bought thin new in “87 when I was living in Claymont next to the sub shop.Record and cover are in good shape.
