Billy Joel-Piano Man

His second album from late 1973. I first heard some of these songs on WMMR from a live radio concert he did at Sigma Sound Studios in 1972. The concert featured songs from his first album Cold Spring Harbor and three songs that would be on Piano Man. One of these songs “Captain Jack” got a lot of airplay on the station and was the first song by Billy Joel I ever heard. This concert helped his career take off. The album came out 18 months later with the title track becoming a big hit. Also getting a lot of airplay was “The Ballad Of Billy The Kid”. The rest of the album is pretty good. I also liked “Traveling Prayer” and “Worst Comes To Worst”. In 1974 I was in Junior Achievement at High School and after the year was over the members of the club had a party. someone brought a record player and a couple albums. This was one of them. Ziggy Stardust was another one. The first time hearing the album in its entirety. Someone else brought some bottles of Boones Farm wine. First time I got sick on alcohol.Listening to this album always reminds me of that. This is one I bought new sometime in the 80’s. Sounds good.
