Jefferson Airplane-Volunteers

The last album with the classic line-up released in November of 1969 ,although they did make one more single “Mexico early. 1970. Overall I think this is their best record, every song is great with the possible exception of the two Country-like songs “The Farm” and “A Song For All Season”. Side one starts off with two of their best songs “We Can Be Together” and “Good Shepard” and ends with “Hey Fredrick” a song with some vocals by Grace Slick and then a long jam with Jorma’s guitar and piano by Nicky Hopkins. Side two opens with a Folk Rock song “Turn My Life Down”. Next is “Wooden Ships” a song written by David Crosby,Steven Stills, and Paul Kantner although he is not given a writing credit on the C.,S. & N. record because of legal reasons. This is followed by “Eskimo Blue Day” an enviromental themed song and the side ends with the title track an anti-war song and anarchist song. It would be two years until the next Jefferson Airplane album as Kaukonen and Cassidy were concentrating on Hot Tuna and Kantner and Slick worked on some projects of their own. This is a used record I got for a dollar. It’s in pretty ad shape with many scratches. There is a spot were the needle gets stuck and keeps repeating. One for the trash. I’m always looking for vintage Jefferson Airplane records but they are hard to find. Although most are available as re-issues In prefer the older ones.
