Jefferson Airplane-Bless It’s Pointed Little Head

This live album was recorded at The Fillmore East and West in 1968 and released in early 1969. Another great album only half of the 8 tracks are from their albums the others being covers and a group improvisation. Side one starts with two from Surrealistic Pillow “3/5 Of A Mile In Ten Seconds” and “Somebody To Love” followed by Donovan’s “Fat Angel” and the Blues standard “Rock Me Baby” sung by Jorma. Side two opens with “The Other Side Of This Life” a Fred Neil song who was a friend of the band. Grace Slick gave him the nickname of Pooneil. After two more early songs “It’s No Secret” and “Plastic Fantastic Lover” they play “Bear Melt” an 11 minute jam with Grace showing off her voice and singing about masturbation and sex. The music is really tight and shows they can jam like the Grateful Dead. Jorma does some great soloing throughout the record. His guitar is as much a soundtrack of the Haight /Ashbury scene as anything by the Grateful Dead. I bought this record used probably 30 years or more ago and the cover and record are not in very good shape.
