Jefferson Airplane-The Worst Of The Jefferson Airplane

original

Today is the first of my Jefferson Airplane/Starship albums, one of my favorite bands and who I will be listening to for the next three weeks. This came out in late ’70 and has all their singles from there first 5 albums and their live record. I remember the day I bought this record. In the summer of ’74 I took a part time job at a pet shop. Things didn’t work out and I was let go after a few days. The first job I had that I had to pay taxes on since I never had to with my paper routs. The IRS has a record of the money I made that year $16(minimum wage was $1.65 an hour back then). I took my paycheck to the shopping center across from the pet shop, cashed my check at a bank there and went to the Listening Booth record store there and bought three records. This was one of them. The other two were Baron Von Tollbooth & The Chrome Nun(a Kanter,Slick,& Freiberg album featuring players who would become Jefferson Starship) and The Dark Side Of The Moon. This original copy has the inner sleeve and record label that is a reproduction of a 1918 sleeve and label.Side one has two from their more folk oriented first record with Singe Anderson as the female singer. Grace Slick joined after that and the band really took off. Every song on this record is great from “Somebody To Love” and “White Rabbit”,two songs by The Great Society,(Graces first band with husband Jerry Slick)to the ballad “Today”,the psychedelic “The Ballad Of You & Me And Pooneil”and the traditional “Good Shepherd. Two short instrumentals are also included and “Plastic Fantastic Lover” from their live album. The record closes with the similar sounding “We Can Be Together” and “Volunteers” from their last album with this line-up. They did put out to more mediocre albums in the early 70’s both of which I had. The cover and record are in good shape considering this was played hundreds of times back when I was still living at home.
