Humble Pie-Eat It

Original

I bought this album in 1973 when it came out, shortly after buying their Rockin’ The Fillmore album. Expecting more of the same I was dissapointed as this record was different from that hard rocking album. Not realizing they had a new guitar player( Dave”Clem” Clemson from Colosseum) I missed Frampton’s fluid guitar style. This two record set has four different sides of music. They are augmented on side one and two by a trio of female backup singers called The Blackbrerries. Side one has four Marriottt penned songs in a Rock and Soul style,Side two has four R&B covers including songs by Ray Charles,Edwin Starr,”That’s How Strong My Love Is” by Roosevelt Jamison and “Black Coffee” by Ike and Tina Turner released as a single and one I did like. Side three has four short mostly acoustic songs by Mariott and is the side I listened to most.Although barely 12 minutes long this side has two songs I like “Say No More” and “Summer Song”. Side four was recorded live in Scotland. The sound quality is not that good on these three songs which are “Up Our Sleeve” a new song by the band , a sloppy cover of “Honky Tonk Woman” and another R&B classic “Road Runner” where the stretch it out to about 12 minutes with Marriott playing some harmonica and Clemson doing some soloing. The record came with a four page booklet glued to the inside of the gatefold cover with photos and drawings of the band of which only one page remains. The record sounds pretty good since it was not played very much except for side three. The band put out two more records before breaking up in 1975.
