Horslips are a band from Dublin,Ireland. They formed in the early 70’s,this record is from 1977. After hearing “Speed The Plow” on the radio I went and bought the record. It’s kind of a concept album about people moving to America after the potato famine. It’s basically a Rock album with bits of traditional Celtic music here and there. With lots of flute and similar vocals, comparisons to Jethro Tull are obvious but they are more into the Celtic tradition than Tull ever was. Besides “Speed The Plow”,that has a nice guitar solo,other good songs are “Sure The Boy Was Green”,”Come Summer”,”New York Wakes”,and “Second Avenue”. They broke up in 1980 but reformed in the early part of this century.
