Jimi Hendrix-Machine Gun

This is Jimi with his Band Of Gypsys a group that had only been together for few weeks before these shows at the Fillmore East. With Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on drums they played two nights at the Fillmore Dec. 31st 1969 and Jan. 1st 1970. As was the custom of the Fillmore artists played two shows every night an early and late show. This record is the complete early show on Dec.31st,the first time the band had played live. The original Band Of Gypsys record released in 1970 had six songs taken from Jan. 1st. All but to of the songs were new some not even having been titled. 11 songs running about 70 minutes this set is a blistering showcase of Hendrix’s guitar playing with some unbelievable solos and jams. Buddy Miles’s drums are pounding throughout but Cox’s bass is more subdued. They run through Buddy’s “The Changes”,”Machine Gun”,”Ezy Ryder”,”Power Of Soul”,”Hear My Train A Comin'”,”Izabella”,”Burning Desire”,and five more. This two record set came out in 2016 and is a nice numbered release with a booklet of photos and commentary. The band would only be together for about three months. Hendrix died in Sept. of 1970 making him one of the first members of the so called 27 club.
