Heart-Dog And Butterfly

Original

Their fourth album from October of 1978. I think this is their best album and certainly my favorite. As with mot of their early records the more rocking songs are on side one,the Dog side and the lighter more ballad type songs are on the Butterfly side. The first song “Cook With Fire” was recorded live and has Nancy Wilson playing some harmonica and sets the tone for the whole side. It is followed by two more good songs “High Time” and “Hijinx” and closes with “Straight On” released as a single and one of their best songs. I Love the bass on that one. The Butterfly side has the lighter songs which I don’t usually like too much but these are all good. Starting with the title track it is followed by “Lighter Touch” and “Nada One” with Nancy getting a rare lead vocal. The last song “Mistral Wind” is a bit more rocking with that Led Zeppelin sound. Heart are big fans of Zeppelin and cover many of their songs in concert. There’s not a bad song on this record, unfortunately this record was played a lot at the first two apartments I lived in and is not in very good shape. Side one is pretty scratchy but plays through but side two is very bad with several skips and some really bad spots, which is funny because it was not played nearly as much as side one. This is one I will have to replace. Used ones are easy to find and I can probably pick one up for four or five dollars.
