Grateful Dead-Steal Your Face

This two record set was recorded live from a 5 day stand at the Winterland Ballroom in 1974. This was the last series of shows before the band went on hiatus for much of 1975. These shows were also filmed and used for The Grateful Dead Movie which came out in 1977. This is a used copy I bought about 5 years ago and is also a cutout as were most of the releases on the short lived Grateful Dead Records label. The music consists of their shorter songs usually performed in their first set. There is no jamming on this record. I listened to sides 1 and 3. Side one has two Chuck Berry covers,a traditional song “Cold Rain & Snow” that they had been performing since their earliest days but played a little slower than usual and “Stella Blue” that sounds much better than the studio version on Wake Of The Flood. Phil Lesh’s awesome bass dominates this song. Side three has their two Country covers “Big River” and “El Paso” that were played many times in the 70’s and”Black- Throated Wind” and “U.S. Blues”. Not their best live album.
