Gov’t Mule-By A Thread

Gov,t Mule was a side project of Allman Brothers members Warren Haynes and Allen Woody. They added drummer Mat Atbs who had played in Dicky Betts band. A jam band in the tradition of The Allman Brothers and Widespread Panic,Haynes is an accomplished guitarist and has played with Phil Lesh and The Dead. This is their 8th album a two record set on yellow semi-transparent vinyl.I believe I had all of their previous records on cassette or CD including several live albums. As with most Jam bands their live albums are the best. This record, like their others, is a mix of hard Southern Rock and Blues with Haynes’s singing not unlike the late Greg Allman’s but not as soulful. The lead track “Broke Down On The Brazos” features Bill Gibbons of ZZ Top on Guitar. “Railroad Boy” is named a traditional song, one I had never heard but it does have that old English ballad sound to it.”Gordon James” is a nice little acoustic song and “Inside Outside Woman Blues” had Warren playing some Blues guitar.
