Genesis-A Trick Of The Tail

original

It’s hard not to name this my favorite Genesis record but I still like Selling England… better. The first album without Peter Gabriel with Phil Collins reluctantly taking over lead vocals after having no luck finding a replacement.Another record where every song is great. The music is more like their older records, not the shorter songs on The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. “Mad Man Moon” has some nice instrumental passages not unlike “Firth Of Fifth” and the two quieter songs “Entangled” and “Ripples” are also very good. On “Robbery,Assault, and Battery” Collins sings in a cockney accent and “Squonk” is a heavier sounding song about a mythical creature that lives in northern Pennsylvania. The title track is a lighter song in a kind of science fiction mode while the closing track, the instrumental “Los Endos” has Collins singing a few lines from “Suppers Ready” in the fadeout. The cover and record are not in bad shape but it does have the water damage as most of my Genesis records do.A favorite from my apartment days this was played many many times.
