J. Geils Band-“Live” Full House

original

The third album from this Boston Area Band. This record was recorded in Detroit where they were very popular. Although this came out in 1972, I didn’t buy it until ’76 or ’77. The song “Looking For A Love” was the first song I heard from the band and one I recorded off the radio for one of my mix tapes in early ’73. Of the eight songs on the record only one is group penned the others being blues and soul covers. “First I Look At The Purse” and “Homework” start off the album, two songs I remember hearing on the radio in the early 70’s.”Whammer Jammer” is an instrumental featuring the harmonica of Magic Dick, probably the best know harp player in Rock and Roll, except maybe that guy from Blues Traveler.”Hard Drivin’ Man” written by guitarist J.Geils and fast talking singer and one time DJ at WBCN Peter Wolf is a good rocker to close out side one. Side two has a long cover of a John Lee Hooker song “Serves You Right To Suffer” with solo’s by Geils and keyboard player Seth Justman. This is followed by “Cruisin’For A Love” and “Looking For A Love”. The cover is in fair shape the the record sounds good,no skips. I always wondered why the poker hand shown on the cover is not a full house.
