Filthy Friends-Invitation

This is a fairly new record from 2017. It’s a supergroup of sorts composed of Seattle area musicians Corin Tucker,Perter Buck,Kurt Bloch,Scott McCaughey, and Bill Rieflin. The record sounds pretty good with Tucker foregoing her usual high pitched screaming she employs in Sleater-Kinney for a more traditional singing voice. Drummer Rieflin had been involved with Industrial bands Ministry and Revolting Cocks.McCaughey and Bloch were in Young Fresh Fellows and Minus 5. All songs were written by Tucker and Buck and sound a little like REM.Released on Portland’s Kill Rock Stars label, like most west coast bands they are political, but not overtly so on this record, though “Despierta” and “No Forgotten Son” are obvious political songs. Another record I need to listen to more.
