Drive-By-Truckers-The Unraveling

Their latest record from April 2020. It’s on green and pink swirled vinyl and comes with a Wes Freed poster and lyric booklet. That’s the best I can say about this record. Unfortunately it’s even more political than their last record, American Band. This is the first time I listened to this record and may be the last. I’m tired of Hood’s rants laying all the problems of this country at the feet of people on the Right. Musically there are some nice instrumental breaks including an electric washboard on one song and some interesting moments on the last song “Awaiting Resurrection”. The only song I really liked was Cooley’s “Slow Ride Argument” seemingly non-political. Even Cooley whose songs are usually somewhat lighthearted gets political on his only other song “Grievance Merchants”. My love for this band is unraveling with each new record. I’ll stick to their older music.
