This came out in early 1972 and I immediately bought it. It’s a compilation of some of their lesser known songs focusing on Morrison’s poetry and darker moments and it covers that very well. The only song missing would be “The Soft Parade”. There are a few hits “Love Her Madly”,”The WASP(Texas Radio And The Big Beat)”,and “Riders On The Storm” all from L.A. Woman. This collection also includes the title track from that record. There are two B-sides that never made it on an album “Who Scared You”,and “(You Need Meat)Don’t Go No Further” a Willie Dixon song. Also on this compilation(at nearly 100 minutes on 2 records) are their two long songs “The End” and “When The Musics Over”. There are good songs from all five of their records like “The Spy”,”Maggie McGill”,”Five To One” and “Shaman’s Blues” one of my favorites. I had that song on one of my mix tapes from the early 70’s. My method of taping songs by putting the microphone between the headphones let some outside noise be recorded. In the middle of the song you can hear the screen door slam on our front porch and whenever I come to that part in the song now I hear that door slam in my mind,it has become part of the song. The record itself is in bad shape with some bad scratches and several skips. Also there is damage on the record that has sides 1 and 4 on it. While riding my 10-speed down a hill with some records in my left hand(probably around ’74 or ’75) this one slipped out of the sleeve and went rolling down the hill. As a result there is a small chip out of side one and a crack about half an inch long through both sides. Will go to the reject pile when I find a replacement. After being out of print for 40 years it was reissued in 2014,but at almost $40 its a little expensive. I’ll keep looking for a used one.
