Recorded in 1975 and released in ’76,this live album features songs from Burn and Stormbringer, the only two albums from this lineup. When Gillan and Glover left they were replaced with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes. This was also Blackmores last tour with the band as he left to start his own band Blackmores Rainbow. The record is good, with Blackmore playing some of his best guitar and Coverdale a credible replacement for Gillan. The record starts off with “Burn” and then goes into the slow blues of “Mistreated”. Side one closes with the rockin’ “Lady Double Dealer”. Side two has a 16 plus minute jam of “You Fool No One” where Blackmore really lets it rip on guitar and ends with a short Ian Pace drum solo. The record closes with Stormbringer another hard rocker. Blackmore was replaced by Tommy Bolin who made one album with the band that came out in late ’75. 14 months later Bolin died of a drug overdose and the band broke up. The classic lineup reunited in 1984 and put out two albums and a couple of tours one of which I saw in 1987 in Philly. The band has continued on and off since then with new and returning members and is rumored to be putting out their final record late in 2020. A pioneering band in the Hard Rock genre, I had many records by them but all were sold in the early 90’s except Made In Japan. This record is a used one I bought in the late 90’s.
