One of the best live records ever this was recorded in 1970 and was released in 1971. The band was at their peak and never sounded better. They broke up shortly after because on in- fighting in the group.I believe this is another record owned by my friends older brother that we listened to many times in his basement that he had turned into a bedroom. I bought this record in ’72 or ’73. One record is acoustic with band members playing their own songs, many of them new and not released yet,and some older ones from their previous bands. Young’s “On The Way Home” was a Buffalo Springfield song, Crosby’s “Triad” was a Byrds song covered by Jefferson Airplane, and Nash sang “King Midas In Reverse a Hollies song not on this record but released on the three record edition that came out on vinyl on Record Store Day 2019. I always Crosby’s “The Lee Shore” a duet with Nash and Neil Young does an acoustic version of “Cowgirl In The Sand” and “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” new at the time. Nash sings “Chicago” and “Right Between The Eyes” which were on his first solo album that came out in 1971. Stills performed 49 Bye-Byes that includes his hippie rant and “Love The One You’re With”. On the second record the plug it in and prove they could jam with the best of them. After kicking renditions of “Pre- Road Downs” and “Long Time Gone” from their first record they go into a blistering “Southern Man” with Crosby,Stills, and Young trading licks that goes on for 13 minutes. Side four opens with “Ohio” written by Young just a month earlier, and into “Carry On” another 13 minute jam,not as intense as “Southern Man” but still featuring some nice guitar work. The record closes with an acoustic “Find The Cost Of Freedom” in perfect four part harmony. If ever there was an essential live record this would be it. This was played a lot during the 15 months I spent living in two apartments with man people but the revcord is in good shape. No skips.
