Crosby,Stills&Nash-Allies

A live album that I bought in 1984 when I was living in Hull. There were two record stores I would go to,both about 40 minutes away. The first two tracks are from the studio.”War Games” was written for the movie of the same name but never used in it. The other new song “Raise A Voice is a nice Stills and Nash Song. Most of the live material was recorded in 1982. They have a backing band with a synthesizer that I don’t think goes well with their songs but songs like “Turn Your Back On Love”,”Dark Star”,and “Barrel Of Pain” sound good. They also cover “Blackbird” a song they perform quite often but the harmonies seem a little off on it . The record closes with a rendition of “For What It’s Worth” that just doesn’t sound as good as Buffalo Springfield’s original. There are two songs from a 1977 tour “Shadow Captain” and Joni Mitchell’s “For Free” sung by Crosby alone. Not a bad album but doesn’t compare to Four Way Street from about ten years earlier. I saw C.S.&N. sometime in the 90’s with my wife at the University of Delaware. David Crosby was going through one of his rough periods healthwise and did not look very good. Stills and Nash carried most of the show.
