Not the first album I bought,that was The Best Of Peter,Paul &Mary,but certainly one of the first five or so. This came out in 1969 and I bought it the following year.This was one of the first “supergroups” with Crosby from the Byrds,Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Nash from The Hollies. Shortly after moving to Wilmington, De. from Reading, I got a paper route and spent all my money on records. A new one would be about four or five dollars then. This is a really good record,love the three part harmonies. “Marrakesh Express” was a hit in 1969,I remember hearing it on AM radio,but it was on the new FM stations like WMMR or my school radio station that I heard songs like “Wooden Ships” co-written by Paul Kantner but not credited,”Suite:Judy Blue Eyes”,and “Long Time Gone” that led me to buy the record. I didn’t like the quieter songs like Crosby’s “Guinnevere” or Nash’s “Lady Of The Island” back then but now I can appreciate them. Back then I thought the line in “Pre-Road Downs” “be sure to hide the roaches” was about the insects,little did I know… Inside the record was a folded page with liner notes and words to the songs. The words for “49 Bye-Byes” take up 49 lines,I counted them, I guess it was done on purpose? The cover is in decent shape considering it is fifty years old. The record has some deep scratches making for a couple rough spots and one skip.Overall the record sounds pretty good.
