Larry Coryell-Introducing The Eleventh House

This came out in 1974 and is a Jazz Fusion record. Retaining only keyboard player Mike Mandel from his last record this new band featured Randy Brecker and Alphonse Mouzon. There are no vocals on this one and many of the songs have a funky feel to them not unlike Weather Report or Return To Forever. Trumpet and synthesizer take the lead in most of these songs with Larry Coryell’s excellent guitar more in the background. Still plenty of good solos but more in the Jazz vein. These are all typical Jazz Fusion songs save for Coryell’s guitar playing. Not my favorite type of Jazz I prefer the more traditional jazz of the 50’s and 60’s although Miles Davis’s music of the early to mid 70’s is an exception. A guy that worked at the steakhouse with me turned me on to this music when he brought this record and Mile’s Live/Evil record to my house to listen to in 1976. I went and bought the record and his earlier one The Real Great Escape later that year. I like that one much better.
