Eric Burdon and the Animals-Once Upon a Time

When the original Animals broke up in 1966 Eric Burdon got some new musicians and put out five records from 1967-1968 some released only in the U.S.This is a German double album from 1979 that has songs from this period. Inside there is a brief history of the band written in German. The one hit on this record from this period is “When I Was Young” from late 1966. The songs are more psychedelic than the original band’s music as Burdon had moved from England to San Francisco at that time. A rather uneven collection some are spoken word, some not too good. The best songs are “When I Was Young”,”Cheating”,”A Girl Named Sandoz”,”Help Me Girl” and “Serenade to a Sweet Lady” a nice acoustic instrumental. The cover is very Roger Dean like but is not one of his. I believe I bought this used in the early 90’s while living in Philadelphia.
